The Market Line
The challenge
1
The Market Line needed an identity that felt rooted in the Lower East Side—something that could exist as a new development without signaling displacement or gentrification. The goal was to create a space that felt familiar to locals while still functioning as a contemporary public market.
The system
2
We built a flexible visual system inspired by the textures, signage, and density of the LES, prioritizing authenticity over polish. The identity was designed to support a rotating mix of local vendors—many longtime neighborhood businesses—while remaining consistent across storefronts, wayfinding, and programming.
The outcome
3
The Market Line became a true neighborhood hangout rather than a destination built for outsiders. By giving local businesses space to grow at accessible rents, the market was embraced by the community and established itself as a place that felt lived-in from day one.
